Addie Brownlee: Music

Frances

(Addie Brownlee)
---
We are concerned about Frances
She pulled all the blossoms off the branches
Threw them in the river
Watched them float away

She’s taken to walking in the mornings
Taken to walking on the moors and
I swear I heard her say comfort thyself
Just the other day

We are concerned about Frances
She mends that same shirt over and over
She’s out there lying in the clover
Lying in the clover

We’re quite undone about Frances
She sits for hours at the window
She says I’m watching for the fall to come
And I’ll watch it go

Meet me in the meadow
Meet me in the shade
We’ll play grown-up girls
Like we used to
Before this grown up world
Left its marks on you

We are concerned about Frances
She pulled all the blossoms off the branches
Threw them in the river
Watched them float away

We are concerned about Frances
She left here looking so lonely
Left a note that said only
Mother, the worst has happened again
